Raphinha answers his Ballon d'Or omission with two more goals

Barcelona's scoring was spread widely. The summer signing Karim Adeyemi produced a stunning finish. Lamine Yamal stroked a free-kick through a gap in the Dutch wall. Gabriel Jesus, another recent arrival, opened his account for the club two minutes after coming off the bench.

Sem Steijn gave the travelling support something late on, poking in at the far post.

Flick on the shape of it

The Barcelona head coach, Hansi Flick, was more interested in the collective than in any individual response to a shortlist.

"The most important thing is we are playing like a team, like one unit," he said. "We controlled the game, we are dominant and this is fantastic to see. This is our style and how we want to play."

Van Bronckhorst's return

There was little for Giovanni van Bronckhorst to take from a return to the club where he played. His Feyenoord side were comprehensively outplayed, and Steijn's consolation was the extent of it.

Around the competition

The rest of the matchday ran in the same direction. Paris Saint-Germain, chasing a third successive Champions League, beat Slovan Bratislava 6-1 at the Parc des Princes, with Ferran Torres scoring a hat-trick.

Stuttgart's Ermedin Demirovic struck a 12-minute first-half hat-trick to beat Viking Stavanger 3-1, and Arsenal won 1-0 at Napoli through Martin Ødegaard.

The caveat that applies to Barcelona applies to all of them. Feyenoord in September is not the test that decides this competition. What the night established is narrower and still worth having: Raphinha is in the best scoring form of his career, and the people who compile shortlists were looking the other way.
