Who is responsible

[Your legal name / registered company name], [Registered address, City, State, PIN], is the data fiduciary (under the DPDP Act) and data controller (under the GDPR) for personal data processed through WENA News. Contact: privacy@wenanews.com.

What we collect

When you simply read an article: nothing that identifies you is collected by us. We set no advertising cookie of our own and run no analytics script of our own.

Server logs. Our host, Cloudflare, processes standard request data — IP address, user agent, the URL requested, timestamp — to serve pages and to protect the site from attack and abuse. This is ordinary infrastructure logging and is retained for a short period.

Aggregate traffic counts. We count how many times an article has been read. That counter is a single number attached to the article. It is not tied to you.

Your browser's own storage. If you use the light/dark toggle, your choice is saved in your browser under wena-theme. It stays on your device and is never transmitted to us.

If you write to us. We keep your correspondence and whatever is in it, so we can deal with your message and keep a record of complaints and corrections.

Third parties that see your request

Being straight with you about this matters more than a shorter policy:

• Cloudflare hosts and delivers this site. Every request necessarily passes through it.
• Nothing else. Our typefaces are served from this domain, not from Google Fonts, so loading a page does not hand your IP address to a font provider. We load no third-party analytics, no social widgets and no tracking pixels.
• Google AdSense serves advertising where it is enabled. Google and its partners may set cookies or similar identifiers to select and measure ads. That processing is Google's, under Google's policies, not ours. You can review and limit it at My Ad Center and Google's partner-sites notice.

We do not sell personal data, and we do not build advertising profiles of our readers ourselves.

Cookies and your choice

We set no cookies of our own. Cloudflare may set one cookie that is strictly necessary for security. Where advertising is enabled, the advertising network may set cookies to select and measure ads.

Advertising cookies are under your control. When you first arrive you are asked, and your answer is remembered in your own browser. If you decline, no advertising script is loaded at all — not a restricted version of it, none of it — and the ad slots are removed from the page. The site is otherwise identical.

Readers in the EEA, the UK and Switzerland are asked before any advertising script runs. Everywhere else advertising is on by default and you may turn it off at any time.

Why we are allowed to do this

Under the GDPR we rely on legitimate interests for delivering and securing the site and for counting readership in aggregate, and on consent for non-essential advertising cookies where consent is required. Under the DPDP Act we rely on consent and on legitimate uses as set out in that Act.

You can withdraw consent at any time; where advertising consent is withdrawn, the site continues to work.

Your rights

You may ask us to:

• tell you what personal data we hold about you;
• correct it if it is wrong, or complete it if it is partial;
• erase it;
• (in the UK/EU) restrict or object to processing, or receive your data in a portable form.

Write to privacy@wenanews.com. We respond within 30 days and we do not charge for it.

One honest limit: material that forms part of published journalism is not deleted on request. If you believe an article about you is wrong or unfair, that is a matter for our corrections policy and our grievance officer, not a data erasure request.

Children

This site is not directed at children and we do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under 18. If you believe we have, tell us and we will delete it.

International transfers

Our infrastructure and advertising providers operate globally, so data may be processed outside your country, including in the United States. Those providers rely on standard contractual clauses and equivalent safeguards for such transfers.

Security

The site is served over HTTPS. Administrative access is password-protected and limited to our editorial staff. We hold very little personal data, which is itself the strongest protection we can offer you.

Changes and complaints

If this policy changes materially we will update the date at the top of the page.
